SPOTLIGHT: October/November 2024

To commemorate our 25th anniversary, we embarked on a meaningful initiative to support the local environment by planting 25 new trees. This effort brought together the entire school community, from the youngest learners in the Early Learning Centre and Childcare Toddlers, who eagerly dug into the soil, to our dedicated Primary and Secondary Student Council members and Student Ambassadors. Their collective efforts aimed to replace trees lost in recent years to unseasonably warm weather, rejuvenating the forest just minutes from our school. Beyond being a hands-on service project, this event deepened our students’ understanding of the forest’s critical role in the community, fostering both a sense of stewardship and connection to the environment.

Our school was recently represented by the Marketing team at the local autumn fair known as the Herbstmesse. This annual event, attended by approximately 35,000 people, serves as an important opportunity for community engagement. One of the key ways in which our school participates is through the Kinderhütezelt, a dedicated childcare tent where parents can leave their children in a safe and fun environment while they explore the Herbstmesse. This year, the tent featured attractions like a charming wooden slide, designed to delight the young visitors, provided by Hübscher Holzbau. Our involvement in this event emphasizes our commitment to building relationships with the local community, showcasing our dedication to family-friendly activities, and sharing the range of services and values our school offers.

The ‘Schaffhausen – area for makers’ group provides support for expats and international businesses, both on arrival and whilst living in the local area. They regularly host events where expats and locals can meet and provide information that is vital when moving to work in Switzerland. On 12th November, a member of the ISSH community will be speaking at the Female Makers event, a group which focuses on supporting women who want to achieve more in their working lives.

They are also currently asking for some feedback about living and working in Schaffhausen. ‘By participating in this survey, you help us better understand the decision-making process for or against choosing the Canton of Schaffhausen as a place of residence. With your help, we can make the most of Schaffhausen and live up to its reputation as a “great place to live”’ (Schaffhausen – area for Makers). If you can take 10 minutes to complete the survey, please follow the link below:
