As Athletic Director of ISSH, I am thrilled to reflect on the success of the SGIS Cross Country Invitational, held on Thursday, October 3rd. ISSH is an active member of the Swiss Group of International Schools (SGIS) which is a non-for-profit organization seeking to promote stronger links amongst teachers, students, administration and International school communities through the arrangement of educational, sporting and cultural activities, as well as coordination of professional development opportunities. I, Ms Trahan. joined the Sports Executive Committee last spring. The aim of the committee is to endorse inter-school sports competitions, at every level, through advanced calendaring, alignment of seasons, consistency in rules and regulations, and ensuring fair and fun play. We, ISSH, hope to increase our participation in inter-school sporting events, displaying our athletic talents and excellent sportsmanship alike, and thus our visibility on the International school circuit
The Cross Country event was an exhilarating day of competition, camaraderie, and school spirit, with ISSH proudly hosting runners from ISSH, ZIS, and ISZN. We were delighted to have 27 of our own students take part in the event, demonstrating both determination and sportsmanship throughout the course. Thankfully, whilst a touch chilled, it was a beautiful day!
I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all those who made this event possible. Ebru Güver deserves a thank you for warmly welcoming the runners, recognising the efforts of the athletes and hosting. A huge thank you to the staff at ISSH and the visiting staff supporting their students. I would also like to give an extra special thank you to the Parents’ Association who provided the snacks and refreshments and volunteered for the day.
Finally and most importantly, I want to congratulate our medal winners (in their respective age categories): Catrin (1st, 5.0km in 23:40), James (1st, 3.5km in 13:59), Luca (2nd), Lennon (1st), Lina (2nd), and Matvii (3rd). Also a special shoutout to the grade 6 boys is due for winning the team category: Lennon, Matvii, Ardit Mulaj, and Philipp Polentarutti!
Looking ahead, we are excited to host the next SGIS event—Badminton—on March 27th. Let’s keep up the momentum Rams!
