My Schaffhausen by Jennifer Mann

When asked about our favorite spots in Schaffhausen and how different this little Swiss boarder city is to places we have previously lived I had to smile. We really do enjoy life here and have many favorite places and activities! We came to live in Busingen, with the kids in ISSH, just under 5 years after 10 years in Eastern Europe. Having lived in the capital cities of Albania, Kosovo and Bulgaria, moving to the countryside border of Switzerland-Germany was a breath of fresh air – literally! We have enjoyed the structured time oriented nature of living here, the historic center with it’s familiar shops and products and the fact that the children can roam quite easily and safely.

Some of our favorite spots include KSS (of course!) with hours of winter and summer fun have been enjoyed with friends in the grounds of KSS. It doesn’t take long in Schaffhausen during the summer for someone to invite you for a swim and picnic at this hub of refreshing activity. Another favorite area of Schaffhausen is the walk or bike ride from the city along the river to Flurlingen or further to the Rheinfalls. Then to loop back on the other side of the Rhein finishing with a coffee at the Gunterhof, or with some more steps, a crepe from the blue crepe van parked beside the river! This easy and accessible loop was introduced to me by a Friday morning walking group of international women and remains a favorite weekly activity with either WalkTalkWalk on a Thursday or the original walkers on a Friday.

In recent months, as a family we have recently enjoyed being introduced to more of Schaffhuasen and the surrounding areas by Geocaching! Just this month I visited the monastery right there in the center of the city. For me a secret, peaceful garden hidden away behind the shops found through hunting for the coordinates, clues and answers of the Geocaching Lab Adventures App.
