SGIS Tournaments & Handball Masterclass: A Celebration of Sport at ISSH
Sports at ISSH go beyond competition, they foster teamwork, resilience, and personal growth. Recently, our students had the opportunity to test their skills at SGIS (Swiss Group of International Schools) tournaments while also learning from a professional handball player.
At the SGIS Badminton Tournament in Lausanne, our Grade 9 students took on strong opponents from across Switzerland. The boys competed in an intense field of 56 players, battling through 155 singles matches, with one student securing a well-earned victory. In doubles, teamwork paid off as another pair clinched a win. Meanwhile, the girls faced 44 players in 108 matches, showing determination and securing a well-deserved singles win and gaining valuable match experience. Beyond the tournament, students also had the incredible opportunity to attend the FC Sport-Lausanne vs. Basel Young Boys soccer match, making it an unforgettable experience.
For our Grade 7 and 8 basketball players, the SGIS Tournament was a chance to put their skills to the test. The boys’ team focused on a strong defensive game and quick transitions, with one player emerging as the tournament’s top scorer. The girls’ team impressed with strategic plays and outstanding athleticism, earning a well-deserved Bronze medal. These tournaments were not just about competition, they strengthened our students’ confidence, sportsmanship, and sense of camaraderie.
Adding to this exciting period of sport, our Grade 8 students enjoyed a masterclass from a retired professional handball player. The session focused on refining essential skills such as passing, decision-making, and teamwork. Through engaging drills and expert guidance, students gained a deeper appreciation for the sport while enhancing their game.
Whether competing in tournaments or learning from professionals, ISSH students continue to embrace challenges, grow as athletes, and create lasting memories through sport. Well done to all!
