As part of the Grade 4’s first unit of inquiry on ‘Cooperation in Communities’, the students have participated in a project where they arranged a charity event in the form of a movie night for the primary school. Here are the students who will explain more about why they organized this event.
What was your unit of inquiry and how did it connect to the Movie Night?
Our unit of inquiry was about Cooperation. We had to cooperate a lot to make the Movie Night happen.
How did you decide on a Movie Night as your project idea?
We came up with lots of ideas, like a bracelet sale, putting on a show, a healthy snack club etc. and then we voted on which one we wanted to do most. We voted by giving points to the ideas we liked the most.
How did your Movie Night connect to your values as a group?
We really value protecting animals, keeping the ocean clean and not using lots of plastic. We connected this to our Movie Night by using reusable plastic cups / bowls and natural products like wooden sticks for cotton candy. We also chose a charity to help animals.
What advice would you give to a group who wanted to organize an event like this?
- Make a list of everything you need to do and put it in order of priority. There’s no point in advertising if you don’t have permission yet!
- Listen to the ideas of others and share your own ideas too.
- Make decisions together by voting.
- Teamwork makes the dream work!
- Make sure everyone knows their strengths so they can do the best job for the group.
- We were lucky to only have 7 people. With a bigger group it might be harder to make sure that everyone has something to do.
