Our student Freiya talks about her WBJ in the interview.
With the WBJ at ISSH, we give our students the opportunity to prepare for their future in a targeted way. Together, we bring strengths to light, fill any gaps in knowledge and create perspectives. The continuing education year serves as a springboard for the Matura or as a starting point for a different career path. We would like to thank our student Freiya for her willingness to answer a few questions about her education at the International School of Schaffhausen.
Dear Freiya, please introduce yourself briefly.
My name is Freiya Wiesendanger and I am 17 years old. I am currently attending the 12th grade at the International School of Schaffhausen.
You have decided to take a year of further education at ISSH. What were your reasons for doing so and how did you find out about the WBJ?
When I was in 9th grade, a colleague made me aware of the year of further education at ISSH. My interest was immediately piqued and that’s why I did more research about the school. The offer of ISSH just seemed to be made for me. I am very glad that I decided to do the WBY at ISSH and I especially appreciate that all the classes were in English.
What did you take away from the WBJ in terms of experience, knowledge and preparation for your future career path?
I can definitely say that I was able to gain valuable experience and build valuable knowledge during the WBY at ISSH. This will definitely be beneficial for my career path. The University Guidance offer in 11th grade helped me a lot to figure out which university I want to go to.
You are currently taking your Matura at ISSH. To what extent did the WBJ help you prepare for this?
The WBJ was ideal preparation for me in many ways. I learned how to manage my time properly and use it efficiently. I also learned to always keep things in order and to ask for help when needed. In general, the teaching at ISSH is characterized by open-mindedness, which will certainly help me a lot in my future professional life.
What goal would you like to achieve by attending the Matura?
My goal is to go to the University of Amsterdam and attend the Psychology course. For that I need the Matura.
What does your typical school day at ISSH look like?
After I have registered with the class teacher, the lessons begin. These are always varied and diverse. I use free periods to study and prepare individually for upcoming tests and exams.
What do you appreciate about ISSH?
ISSH is very rich in culture and has an excellent learning atmosphere. The teachers are extremely helpful and always try to get the best out of the students.
How is your relationship with the teachers and with your classmates?
At ISSH it is not difficult to make new friends quickly. All the students are very open-minded. You get the feeling that everyone is pulling together and learning at ISSH is not against each other, but with each other. I also have a positive relationship with the teachers.
What tips can you give to students who want to tackle the Matura or are interested in a WBJ?
In any case, you should not waste any time and always start directly with the tasks. That way, you avoid getting stressed out just before the deadline or the exam. It is also helpful to manage your time well so that you can keep up with the material in all classes. I can also recommend asking teachers if you have any questions. For example, my teacher helped me a lot in choosing the right subjects for the Matura.
