Learning in the 21st century

Researching, exploring, asking questions and finding answers; these are all a core part of our pedagogy. Various media and technology support us in our everyday school life. These include digital tools and research on the internet as well as a rich selection of non-fiction books and mother tongue literature for the children.

Maker Space

We use a range of IT devices like netbooks, I-pads and Chromebooks. Each classroom has wireless access and we use the Google Education and Google Classroom services for many purposes of teaching and learning.

Portable IT

We have Apple tablets for the students to use when applicable. These can be used for research, learning apps and also video filming, photos and voice recording. A class set of chromebooks are also available for IT work out of the lab.

Fiction in various languages

A broad selection of top titles in children‘s literature is available in the library which the students visit every week to exchange their reading books. Reading is strongly encouraged at ISSH, in both German and English; for this reason we also have a variety of fiction books in languages other than English.

Destiny-System

Destiny is the name of our library software used by many international schools. Through keywords included in the system, the students gain quick access to the books available in the library and their contents. The system also contains links to many age-appropriate online sources and encyclopaedias, which can also be accessed from anywhere via the link on the ISSH library website.

Non-fiction research sources

The large primary library has a comprehensive collection of non-fiction books covering numerous areas of interest, including books focused on each of the units taught across the primary curriculum.

Study Area

Outside our Grades 2,3,4 and 5 classrooms we have study pods; these are quiet areas with additional laptops/PCs for small group or individual work.
