Secondary School & Pre-IB Programme

Preparing Future-Ready Students:
A Holistic Pathway to the IB Diploma

At ISSH, our Secondary School and Pre-IB Programme provides a seamless, comprehensive education designed to prepare students aged 11 to 16 for the challenges of higher education and beyond. This critical phase in personal, social, and intellectual development is supported by a holistic approach that nurtures the whole child—academically, emotionally, socially, and ethically.

Our curriculum builds on the Primary Years Programme (PYP) foundation and serves as an ideal pathway to the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP). Through engaging and inquiry-based learning, we equip students with the skills, attitudes, and knowledge to participate actively and responsibly in a globally interconnected world.

OUR APPROACH TO LEARNING

The Middle School at ISSH takes a holistic approach to education, nurturing students’ intellectual, emotional, physical, and ethical development. It emphasises real-world connections across subjects, encouraging critical thinking and reflection. With a focus on international-mindedness, students explore different cultural perspectives and actively engage in their communities.

Our inclusive and supportive school community nurtures a sense of belonging, with students participating in House events, the Student Council, and Model United Nations (MUN), all fostering lifelong friendships and celebrating individual talents.

OUR CURRICULUM

The secondary school curriculum at ISSH provides a well-rounded, academically rigorous foundation, designed to prepare students for future success. Students engage in core subjects such as Mathematics, Sciences, English, German, French, and Humanities. In addition, they can choose from electives such as High School Preparation, Writing Skills, and Career Exploration, with personalised support available to address any gaps in their learning, particularly in Languages and Mathematics.

Language proficiency is a key focus throughout the curriculum. Students strengthen their skills in English, German, and French, with opportunities to earn internationally recognised certifications like TOEFL, DSD I/II, and DELF.

The curriculum emphasises Science and STEM education, providing hands-on learning through laboratory work and projects. This prepares students for future careers in STEM fields by fostering problem-solving skills and critical thinking.

As part of their academic preparation, students receive targeted support for higher education entrance exams (e.g., Kanti, BMS), with successful completion enabling direct entry into the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP). In Grade 10, students complete an independent project tailored to their individual interests, allowing them to apply their learning in a personal context.

The curriculum also focuses on career and life skills. Students participate in coaching, career workshops, application training, and internships to explore their strengths and future pathways. This holistic approach ensures students are equipped with the academic knowledge and practical skills they need to thrive in their studies and beyond.

Students in Grade 9 and Grade 10 are particularly prepared for the IBDP course, with the flexibility to make targeted choices through elective options that align with their academic and career interests.
