The ISSH was founded in 1999 to support the economic growth of the region of Schaffhausen by meeting the educational needs of international and local families.

Owned by the International School of Schaffhausen Foundation, the school is guided by two boards. The Foundation Board focuses on facility development and works closely with the Board of Directors to steer the organisation’s strategic direction.  The Board of Directors also supports the Senior Leadership Team in the overall management of the school. Board members, who serve on an honorary basis, are drawn from various backgrounds, such as local and international business, education, and politics.

The continuity of leadership and long-term vision is a key strength of ISSH. The Head of School, who is part of the school board, has full operational control and is supported by the school leadership team (SLT), including the Middle School Principal, Primary Principal, High School Principal, and Business Operations Director. Monthly SLT meetings focus on key areas such as finances, infrastructure, staffing, and school development.
