Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of ISSH at the Summer Fair

At the end of August, we celebrated the 25th anniversary of the International School of Schaffhausen with a vibrant Summer Fair. Families, friends, and local residents gathered to enjoy a day filled with community spirit, local crafts, artisanal foods, and unique gifts.

A highlight of the fair was a series of science workshops, which offered valuable insights into our educational approach and demonstrated the hands-on learning experiences we provide at ISSH. Our students also showcased their entrepreneurial skills through their own stalls, offering snow cones, lemonade, and games. Our raffle included a range of prizes from local companies including IWC, Kantonalbank, Unilever, Kadetten, Aranea and Smilestones.

The Discovery table provided a creative outlet for families, with activities such as bag decorating, bracelet making, and face painting, enjoyed by both children and adults alike.

This event strengthened the connection between the ISSH community and local residents, emphasising collaboration and shared experiences. We look forward to celebrating more milestones together in the future!

Secondary Student Council Evening

Recently, the Student Council took an innovative approach to kicking off an exciting new school year by holding a special planning evening. With their usual 30-minute weekly meetings leaving little time for in-depth event preparation, they decided to invest in this extended session to build on the momentum of last year’s successes.

In line with the core value of “taking responsibility,” students showed their dedication by completing their homework before diving into the planning session. This approach not only helped them focus but also highlighted their ability to balance academic commitments with leadership roles.

Afterward, the energy in the room shifted as they began brainstorming and refining ideas for key events such as Spirit Week, Diwali celebrations, the Snowball, and a film night. The students’ enthusiasm was clear, with each member contributing fresh and exciting ideas to ensure that the school year would be both fun and engaging for everyone.

One council member remarked, “The evening was a great success! We achieved so much, and it’s exciting to know that we are setting the stage for an incredible year ahead.” This productive session reflected the council’s dedication to fostering a vibrant school community, where leadership and collaboration come together to create memorable experiences for all students.

Clean up Day

Clean Up Day is more than just an annual event; it is a national Swiss initiative to promote environmental awareness and community involvement. Schools across Switzerland participate by organising local clean-ups, and the International School of Schaffhausen is proud to contribute to this worthy cause. This year, students from grades 6 to 10 each chose an area in their local community to clean up, collect litter and help beautify the surroundings.

Through this hands-on experience, students learned about the detrimental effects of littering, pollution and waste on ecosystems. Clean Up Day promotes a deeper understanding of environmental stewardship and provides a practical platform for students to take responsibility for the world around them. By participating in this initiative, our students not only make a tangible difference in their community, but also join a wider movement across Switzerland to promote sustainability and environmental care.
